Majority will say that they can bring improvement in their posture but how, no body knows. how to correct posture Modern living means we probably are not as active as previous generations. Most of the time we used to sit in relaxed position in our couches, cars and at the desks. It makes hard to use our muscles in the best possible way. Some body parts become overstressed including shoulders and neck while others become weaker like lower back area. Poor posture is the factor due to which several types of posture exercises have been developed to correct it. But using the certain muscles set during posture exercises we disturb the natural reflex system for improving posture properly. how to correct your posture Several types of built in reflexes are present in our body to coordinate the muscular framework to carry our various movements and to take various positions. Due to poor posture issue the natural reflex system badly influenced. Over stress makes you stiff your neck and shoulder area. These actions will override your natural mechanisms for balance and movement. Constant inappropriate use of these muscles will eventually corrupt how you move. It becomes a catch-22 problem. More you will repeat the wrong pattern the better you will be able to learn it until it is corrected. While I am in the favor of posture exercises to bring positive changes in posture but in actual sense it makes the situation complicated. What could be done in this situation to get the better posture? Is it the best natural way to stand? In my role as a teacher of The Alexander Technique I see many people who suffer as a result of poor posture. I also see just as many who are suffering as a result of their attempts to correct it! In an attempt to stand straight you do nothing to improve posture but put extra pressure over the muscles and joint framework. You should not waste your time to take position you think is right rather you should lower the stress making your natural reflexes work improperly. So forget about posture and learn about Poise. Poise is a skill we usually lose in your youth. Having poise in your body means that you don’t need to do a lot of effort to keep your body into balanced posture and to perform all basic action in proper natural way. Poise can be observed in athletes and in show biz world related persons. Just think about the balanced personalities of Muhammad Ali or Fred Astaire and you will get example of having poise in body. I don’t think so that they have used any type of exercise to improve their postures. Poise can be achieved just by pushing the stress and tension out of your body and letting it respond to the power of gravity. If you are having no issue in walking with spring then it shows you are having poise. If you can sit over a desk with no stress over your shoulders, neck and back then you are poised. Trying to improve your posture by trying harder will take you further away from your natural poised state. So just stop over here and let your natural response to shape your basic position including sitting, standing and walking so you could get back you poise successfully.
